RE/MAX you have made a huge impact in many children’s lives, and today we would like to share Michael’s journey with you.
Michael, age 5, has an ultra-rare genetic disease called SPG50—a neurodegenerative condition that causes developmental delays, speech impairment, seizures, and progressive paralysis and can be fatal. In 2019, SickKids conducted genome-wide sequencing, leading to his diagnosis. Just three years later, Michael became the first patient ever to receive an individualized gene therapy for SPG50 in a single-patient clinical trial at SickKids. Developing the drug was a feat that took relentless dedication, huge sacrifices, and exceptional fundraising by Michael’s parents. For SickKids, this unprecedented clinical trial is a major milestone that demonstrates the potential of what we call Precision Child Health, our visionary approach for the future of medicine.
By the time the Peter Gilgan Family Patient Care Tower opens in 2033, SickKids aims to provide healthcare that’s as unique as every child who needs it, extending precision approaches beyond the ultra-rare and hard-to-cure to more common childhood illnesses. Through ongoing research, innovation, and the support of partners like you, we will shape a future where every child receives the special care they deserve.

A NEW SickKids is Rising with the opening of our Patient Support Centre!
We are thrilled to bring you news on the progress of the Patient Support Centre and the incredible impact it has on patient care. Our amazing donor community has rallied to help us build a new SickKids: first the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning in 2013; then the Patient Support Centre, our new education and administration hub, on track for occupancy in 2023; and next, the Peter Gilgan Family Patient Care Tower will complete the transformation of our campus when it opens in 2033.
While we’re taking a moment to celebrate what we’ve achieved so far, our community’s generous help remains as vital as ever as it allows us to work in our today and tomorrow highest priorities.
Go Serve Big!!!
